Ron Williams

Ron Williams started his racing career in 1970 at the age of 38 in an FJ holden with a big Stromberg carby sitting on the motor. He was hoping for big things but His first outing at the marong road hot rod track in Bendigo saw the FJ roll 3 times. As Usual Ron was checking over the competitions cars and returned a few weeks later and had four wins for a cash pool collect of $12

There’s not many tracks around Victoria and lower NSW that Ron hasn’t raced at, and He was a invited guest to the opening of Premier Speedway in Warnambool. It was about this time the light weight EH flyer was built , which He painted red as He was told “red cars go fast”.

The now famous 151 number became well known and he kept the number for 25 years.

Ron had won about everything worth wining at the time with His EH with a highlight being the Australian asphalt championship at the Southern 500 speedway at Portland, , two 100 lap derby wins at Alexandra and  including the Indianapolis stakes at the famous Bendigo speedway.

Ron has worked tirelessly over the many years at the Rushworth speedway and has always been one to pulls a few surprises out of the hat with how things should be done.

Ron continued to race till about 70 years of age and has always been eager to offer support and ideas to any Driver who wants to sit for a few hours for a chat!

Ron was inducted into the Goulburn Valley hall of fame , and is a well respected life member. To Ron we simply say  “Thanks”
